Free Family POPS Concert

Come celebrate the 20th Anniversary Free Family POPS Concert at Prospera Place starting at 7:30pm this Canada Day.

Prior to 1994, the only event organized to celebrate Canada Day in Kelowna was the popular Folk Festival, a multi-cultural display of ethnic dancing and singing.

Music director Leonard Camplin saw an opportunity to fill the void with an evening concert of orchestral music followed by a fireworks display.

A board of directors was formed in 1994 for the purpose of organizing and sponsoring the Canada Day POPS Orchestra and formed a non-profit organization “Kelowna Canada Day Concerts Society (KCDCS)”.

The inaugural concert and fireworks display took place on the evening of July 1st, 1994. Due to heavy rainfall the purpose built outdoor stage had to be dismantled and the performance was moved into Kelowna's Memorial Arena. Seven years later in, 2001 the concert moved to the newly completed Skyreach Place, now named Prospera Place, Over the years Mike Roberts (CHBC), has been thre Master of Ceremonies.

The Video below is pictures from previous concerts set to "The Mountains" Composed by Michael Conway Baker, performed by the Kelowna POPS Orchestra, in the 2013 Canada Day Spectacular.
