Katy Perry hung on to John Mayer for dear life

Katy Perry has admitted her relationship with John Mayer isn't always easy.

But the 'Roar' hitmaker, who has had an on/off relationship with the singer-songwriter since June 2012, hinted that they have worked through the majority of their issues since they reunited over the summer after she publicly declared her love for him in Vogue magazine while they were on a break.

During a joint interview on 'Good Morning America' to promote their new duet, 'Who You Love', on Tuesday (12.17.13), the 29-year-old star said: "Relationships are kind of like riding a bull. You hang on for dear life. Sometimes you get a little buck here and there and sometimes you get things thrown at you but you get back on."

Katy, who split from her ex-husband, Russell Brand, in December 2011 after 14-months of marriage, also revealed she got to know John, 36, better in the recording studio.

She said: "John has a very gentle, authentic touch to everything he does."

The couple confessed they were very nervous about their fans judging their relationship while promoting their new track.

John said: "We don't quite know what kind of body language we're supposed to be exhibiting.

"You get too close it's a little too touchy feely and you get too far away and people say 'I don't see chemistry.' "

But he added: "It's been really great."
