Tim Burton 'considering' Beetlejuice sequel

Tim Burton is ''seriously considering'' a 'Beetlejuice' sequel.

After years of speculation about the status of a follow-up to the 1988 fantasy flick, it appears the filmmaker is currently waiting to see the new script from 'Dark Shadows' screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg before signing on to direct.

Burton has been invited by Warner Bros. to direct the movie, on which he is already a producer with David Geffen, according to The Wrap.

This development comes after it was rumoured Burton had dropped his plans to helm 'Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children' as his follow-up to the recently wrapped 'Big Eyes', and is on the hunt for a new project.

The award-winning director hinted last year he was likely to make a sequel if Grahame-Smith came up with an exciting enough script.

He said: ''[Only] if it was interesting. Although, I don't know if I would ever know a good script if it bit me in the face. But, I know what I like, so we'll see.

''Seth [Grahame-Smith] is writing something. I just told him, because it was something where I liked the character, he'd probably have a better response. He has ideas about it, so I just wanted to let him respond to it and see what he comes up with.''

The original 'Beetlejuice' movie starred Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, but it is not yet known whether the actors would reprise their cult roles.
