RCMP FILE: 2012-48324, 2012-48773, 2012-49018

Kelowna RCMP and the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a few fires of a suspicious nature over the Labour Day long week-end. It is unknown if the fires are related, but they did all occur in the Rutland area. The first fire was noticed at approximately 2:00 PM on August 31 on the 100 block of Briarwood Road. Residents were evacuated and there were no injuries. The second fire occurred on September 2 at 4:16 PM on a deck at a home on the 400 block of Hein Road. It appears items on the deck were deliberately set on fire. The third set of fires occurred in the area of the 500 block of Fraser Road (near Pearson Road) around noon on September 3. A passing motorist noticed smoke and quickly dialled 9-1-1. Three fires had been set; one destroyed a set of eight 16’ cedar hedges, grass was on fire a few houses away from that and another grass fire was set in the walkway that connects McCurdy Road to Pearson Road.

DATE: August 25, 2012

RCMP FILE: 2012-46799

The residents of an apartment complex on the 800 block of Leathead Road were not happy to wake up to the new “paint-jobs” on their cars the morning of August 25, 2012. Overnight an “artist” had taken a can of white spray paint to at least 6 vehicles parked in the parking lot. The cars painted included a VW Cabriolet, a gray Chevy S10, a white Jeep, and a white Dodge pick-up. Hardest hit was this black 2011 Dodge Charger. Please contact Crime Stoppers if you know who the budding artist is.
