DATE: February 9, 2011
RCMP FILE: 2011-5508, 2011-5457
Copper thieves are still hitting the Okanagan hard. At least two additional files were reported on February 9th alone. The first theft reported occurred at the Okanagan College at 1000 KLO Road. Security noticed that several of the lamp standards around the campus had been tampered with. Surveillance video shows the attempted thefts occurred approximately 3:00 AM. It appears that the suspect was interrupted while tampering with a control box and left before they finished the job. Another file was reported the same day that happened at the East Kelowna Sports fields. The field lighting system had all the wire stolen from the standards.
