DATE: April 30, 2016
RCMP FILE: 2016-22458
At 4:14 a.m. on April 30th a Rutland man was roused by a loud clunking noise. When he looked out his window he saw three young men running away from Lion’s Park. Police attended to discover the three youth had stacked shopping carts at the foot of the cenotaph in order to push over the marble tower on top of the restored memorial. They were successful in damaging the tower, the lights and left the park in a mess. The nearly 100 year old Cenotaph and surrounding area was restored in 2009 at a cost of $200,000.
