CRIME: FUEL THEFT

DATE: August 14, 2015

RCMP FILE: 2015-43608

RCMP are investigating a rash of fuel thefts that occurred August 10-11 at remote locations in the West Kelowna area. In the early hours of August 10th a grey or tan Ford F350 backed into a gate at the Brenda Mine site causing significant damage to the automated gate and to the truck’s tailgate. The truck, which had a black tidy-tank in the rear, was used to steal approximately 1000 litres of diesel and 150 litres of gasoline. A second, darker F350 with mud tires was also caught on video at the site. At 6:00 a.m. on August 11th surveillance caught two suspects as they cut the padlock to an entry gate at the Powers Creek Water Treatment Plant located on Shelter Drive. Again the truck was a beige or grey Ford F350 with a black tidy-tank in the rear. The men pried open the panels of the diesel generator and stole approximately 300 litres of diesel fuel and two batteries. A loader at an Argo maintenance yard at Brenda Mines also had 90 litres of fuel syphoned.
