CRIME: SCAMS

DATE: November 4 and 5, 2013

RCMP FILE: 2013-62541/62681

A couple of recent scams have come about that the public should be aware of. At approximately 5:00 PM on November 4th a woman was approached by a male at a gas station on Springfield Road. He asked for a boost for his vehicle and proceeded to ask for money to pay for a tow bill. The woman drove the man to a few places and allowed him to use her phone. Once arriving at the place where the car was supposed to be the man entered the building with the borrowed money in hand but never returned. He is described as approximately 40-50 years of age with a large build and was wearing a black jacket, jeans, glasses and a mustache.

On November 5th, Kelowna RCMP were contacted regarding a suspicious occurrence that happened early that morning. A building resident buzzed a man into an apartment building on the 1100 block of Bernard Avenue. The man went from unit to unit asking for money, stating it was for a tow truck. This man was a well-dressed man in his late 40’s; approximately 6’ tall with a medium build.
