Best selling author Robert Munsch has written over 40 children’s books. His stories have amazed and astounded millions of readers for over thirty years. His greatest work,
Love You Forever (a book his original publisher refused to publish) has sold over 18 million copies making it one of the best selling children’s books of all time.
Another writer named Debbie Patterson took four of Munsch’s stories (
Class Clown, More Pies, Murmel Murmel Murmel and No Clean Clothes), and turned them into a sort of medley theatre piece called Munsch Ado About Nothing.
Artistic Director Tracy Ross chose this wonderful play for the second feature of the second season of Bumbershoot Childrens Theatre. The show, directed by Margaret Gobie centers around three carnival types who find them selves before an audience with...yes, you guessed it: nothing! No material, no act and no luck finding alternate employment.
Brad Hull is the overbearing ring leader named Shakespeare who reluctantly decides to go along with his two remaining performers played by Michelle Hussey and Gwen Plitt. Their plan is to re-enact stories from a Robert Munsch compilation. Brad cracked me up, I could not keep a straight face. Every time he walked on the stage, in whatever ludicrous costume or character I just had to laugh.
Michelle and Gwen were equally outrageous playing so many zany characters that I could hardly keep track. Think about it, three people playing their main parts and the parts of all the characters in four different stories. That’s no small task for any actor.
I would whole heartedly encourage all kids and kids at heart to come out and experience some great live family entertainment. The next show is The Steadfast Tin Soldier coming June 27, 28, 29. To find out times and ticket information go to:
