BCFGA past president dies
Sep 1, 2013 / 2:29 pm
Past president of the BC Fruit Growers’ Association, Joe Sardinha, passed away suddenly Saturday night. He was 52 years of age.
Universally known as “Joe” to all he met, Sardinha was a popular president of the BCFGA from 2005 to 2011. He and his wife and family operated an orchard in Summerland.
“Joe’s death was totally unexpected. Everywhere I went, people asked how Joe was keeping – out of admiration and respect for Joe. He loved his family, farming and the farm community. I speak for all tree fruit growers in saying we are deeply saddened by this news,” said Jeet Dukhia, President of the BC Fruit Growers’ Association.
Sardinha’s untimely death comes at an early age and he leaves his wife Julie and two grown children. The family has asked for privacy as they recover from this unexpected death.
The BCFGA is an agriculture association with a membership of 550 commercial tree fruit growers in BC. It celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2014.
