First community youth day Sunday
Aug 17, 2013 / 7:43 am
The Oceola Fish & Game Club will host its first Community Youth Day on Sunday, August 18, from 10am-3pm at the Oceola Habitat Preserve on Bottom Wood Lake Rd. in Lake Country.
The format of the day will be a mixture of an open house / treasure hunt. Kids will walk through the club's nature preserve learning all kinds of things about birds, wildlife, fish, insects, habitat, fishing and hunting and shed hunting.
There will also be experts on hand from Trout Waters Fly shop to demonstrate fly casting and fly tying as well as Ken and Chuck, from Hardcore Archery teaching a basic introduction to the NASP program. Participants will get to try archery in a safe and organized environment.
There will be approximately 50 shed antlers distributed throughout the preserve for kids to find and identify as part of the "treasure hunt". Our CORE instructor will be on hand to discuss the CORE program and getting kids started in hunting. A BBQ lunch will be provided free of charge.
The event is open to both members and non-members.
Meanwhile, if anyone is interested in volunteering, the event could still use some assistance, according to its organizers. Please RSVP to [email protected]
