It was a big party at Big White

The New Year's party might be over but Big White Ski Resort is still celebrating.

During the Christmas holidays the mountain experienced the largest volume of guest to visit the resort.

All runs and lifts were open thanks to a 177 cm snow base, which meant shorter line ups over the record days.

Michael J. Ballingal, Sr. Vice President of Big White, said the average wait time on the busiest days was under 15 minutes for most chairs.

"With the addition of the 6 passenger Snow Ghost chair lift, Big White also moves 10 people every 7 seconds out of the Ridge Rocket pod."

According to Ballingal the most accurate measure of visitors to the mountain is through the Big White Water and Sewer company who have experienced between 12 per cent and 30 per cent volume increases when compared to the same period last year.

"During the three day period of December 30, 31 and January 1st, the resort used over 620,000 gallons of water a day, peaking at 642,000 gallons on New Year’s Eve day. The water is sourced from Rhonda lake, at the bottom of the cliff."

On New Year’s Eve over 8,000 guests visit the Village Centre for the midnight fireworks. Kelowna RCMP reported no unusual problems from the record crowds.

The majority of guests arriving during the record check in came from Vancouver and the Lower Mainland, Toronto, Winnipeg, Seattle and Australia.
