Emergency crews were called to an accident between a motorhome and a car in Summerland on Hwy. 97 just after 7 p.m. Sunday.

Highway 97 was closed to southbound traffic while the wrecks were moved, traffic was eventually detoured around the scene.

"Looks to be three elderly people involved in the accident. The ambulance came to the McDonald's and the paramedics are on scene now. Not sure if that was all involved," reported witness Kathryn Tosh.

"The fire engulfed half of the motorhome and the car is completely destroyed. It did spread onto the grass by the McDonald's, but it was put out."

Summerland RCMP Cst. Pierre Michon says the drivers only received minor injuries.

Michon says two cars were also rear ended at a red light when the motorhome apparently lost its brakes at Prairie Valley and Highway 97. He says the driver in the small car is lucky witnesses grabbed him out of the burnt vehicle.

Dan Jackson, who shot the video (above), says, "Apparently someone grabbed the Cavalier driver while he was unconscious or dazed. He would've burned to death within a couple minutes.  He had a gash on his nose, but looked OK. It was quite a fire for sure!"

Joe Wingham says, "The RV driver told me his brakes failed."

Wingham says there were lots of people who stopped to help, "restores ones' faith in human nature."
