West Kelowna Mayor Doug Findlater versus Penticton Mayor Dan Ashton . . . . no, they are not fighting, but they may be out to pull the jersey over each other's head.

It's all riding on how the West Kelowna Warriors and the Penticton Vees fare when they go head to head this season.

A friendly wager begins tonight with the Junior A hockey teams’ first regular-season match-up.

Mayor Findlater threw out the challenge that the losing team’s Mayor would wear the winning team’s jersey at the first post season Council meeting. Mayor Ashton increased the stakes by including dinner.

“I know the Vees won the country last year and we all cheered for them in Saskatchewan, however the newly rebranded West Kelowna Warriors are hot, hot, hot this year in pre and early season,” says Mayor Findlater. “I know I will enjoy being treated to dinner by Mayor Ashton.”

Tonight the Warriors host the Vees at Royal LePage Place in West Kelowna, with Mayor Findlater and MP Dan Albas performing the ceremonial puck drop at 7 p.m.
