Central Okanagan

There is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for the Central and North Okanagan for Monday evening.

Doug Lundquist of Environment Canada says the storm system has moved up from the south and into the central interior.

"The higher likelihood (for a severe thunderstorm) is in the north Okanagan, Shuswap and further north."

Area residents could see wind gusts up to 90 or 100 km an hour, hail, heavy downpours or intense lightning.

Lundquist says the biggest threat from the storm in the Central Okanagan is wind and lighting.

Environment Canada is anticipating the possibility of another thunderstorm warning for Tuesday and again on Friday.

According to Lundquist temperatures will drop on Friday, with an estimated high of 18 degrees.

"We are in an extended period of dry conditions. We haven't had rain in about a month, (sic) but Friday we are forecasting a system to move in and bring showers, which is what we may really need."

In Kelowna there has been .3 mm of rain, in Penticton there has been .4 mm and in Vernon 3.4 mm, since the start of August.
