Three in critical condition after crash

Update: 8 a.m.

Police have confirmed that a man and a woman were airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital and a second woman was airlifted to Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital from the crash site on Monday night.

 

It has been confirmed the second woman will be transported from Kamloops to Vancouver General Hospital sometime Tuesday.

All three sustained life threatening injuries and remain in critical condition.The fourth person, a male, did not survive.

RCMP Cst. Kris Clark, says the deceased is not believed to be the pilot. His body remains at the scene pending arrival of the coroner.

Efforts continue to notify their family members.
 

The fourth person on the plane did not survive. RCMP are still on scene along with Transportation Safety Board investigators and the BC Coroner Service expected to attend later today.

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Victoria confirms the plane went down around 5 p.m.

Canadian Navy search and rescue spokeswoman Capt. Annie Djiotsa says the Piper twin engine Comanche went down near Brenda Mines.

She says the plane took off from Penticton, about 55 kilometres from the crash site. A Cormorant helicopter was dispatched to the crash site along with a search and rescue Buffalo aircraft.

Chris Harbord from the BC Ambulance Service confirmed three people in critical condition were taken from the crash site to hospitals in Kelowna and Kamloops.

"It took a while for search and rescue to find the plane and when they did we understood there was four patients onboard," she said.

The Transportation Safety Board says it will be investigating the crash and plans to send two officials to the site on Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews are staging near the Brenda Mines turn off of Highway 97C.

On May 13 a plane went down in the same area.
