Video: Semi overturns at 8-Mile hairpin
Video: Kelly Hayes - Castanet
The notorious 8-Mile hairpin has claimed another victim.
A semi, believed to be loaded with recycling materials, overturned at the hairpin sometime after 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
The portion of highway was closed to traffic while the semi was removed from the scene.
One lane of traffic has now opened, however, police indicate it could remain that way for a few hours (estimated to be 6:30 p.m.) while crews clean up the mess.
This is the second time in less than a month a semi has overturned in the area of the hairpin.
Last month, a tractor trailer hauling wood chips lost its load after taking the corner too fast.
Several vehicles have failed to negotiate the corner over the past several years.
