Crash victim succumbs to injuries

A 69-year-old man injured in a rollover on Hwy 97C two weeks ago, succumbed to his injuries Friday.

Just before 3 p.m. on August 27 Merritt RCMP responded to a single-vehicle rollover near Pothole Creek Bridge on the connector.

At the scene, a Ford F350 pickup towing a loaded flat deck trailer was found in the ditch beside the westbound lanes of the highway.

Two men inside the vehicle were injured. The 69-year-old driver had serious injuries and was airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital. The 26-year-old passenger suffered only minor injuries.

RCMP say the driver lost control of his vehicle after crossing Pothole Creek Bridge. The loaded trailer started swaying and the driver was not able to regain control before the vehicle rolled.

Speed and road conditions are not believed to have been factors in the crash.

RCMP and the BC Coroners service continue to investigate.
