Peachland fire contained

UPDATE 7:00 P.M.

A small wildfire discovered this morning in Peachland is now 100 per cent contained.

The fire was located just west of downtown Peachland behind the Ponderosa Golf Course.

Fire Information Officer Melissa Klassen says the small 0.1 hectare fire was quickly downgraded to a rank 1 as fire fighters had the upper hand and the fire was not behaving aggressively.

The original 10 ground forest fire fighters working on the blaze was dropped to six this afternoon, as the fire was entirely under control.

At this time it is suspected to be human caused.

ORIGINAL

BC Wildfire management is responding to a blaze in the Pincushion Mountain Area near Peachland.

The fire was reported just after 10:30 a.m. and is currently estimated at .1 hectares in size.

One helicopter, one air tanker group and 10 personnel are on the ground fighting the fire which is currently deemed a smouldering ground fire with occasional open flame.

No structures are immediately threatened.

Melissa Klassen with Wildfire control said there have been no confirmed lightning strikes in that particular area over the past 24 hours, so right now it is possibly a human caused fire.

Check back for more.
