Okanagan power outages

BC Hydro has taken several Okanagan communities off power for scheduled maintenance today.

The communities of Chase and Pritchard will be out of power from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a scheduled and routine maintenance.

BC Hydro spokesperson Moira Scott said that locals were notified through the local newspapers and that the weekend had been selected because "it's typically the time when the least amount of businesses and schools are affected."

Christine Harwood of Peachland also reported a power outage, and said she and her husband were unaware of this "planned event."

"I think it is very poor planning to take Peachland's power down on a Sunday when they host the entire valley for their Farmer's Market," she said. "Some businesses (coffee shops, etc) will be losing a lot of revenue today."

Scott said that there are two outages in Peachland today, both from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., both affecting about 460 customers. One is for a planned maintenance and the other is for a pole replacement.

Meenu Saini of Bliss Bakery said that their Peachland store is not affected by either of the outages.
