Searchers find missing man

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) and the RCMP were called out Thursday night to search for a man in his 70s, with a medical condition.

He had gone for drive in the area of Three Forks Road on Thursday afternoon and failed to return home.

Around 10:30 p.m. his wife called the RCMP, who in turn contacted COSAR to help in the search.

COSAR responded with nine members and two trucks.  As COSAR members and the RCMP arrived at the staging area the elderly male was located as he was driving out. He had driven into the back country and had gotten stuck and unknown to COSAR or the RCMP a family member had driven up and found him and gotten him unstuck and was bringing him back.

COSAR would like to remind the public, that if they go into the back country to make sure they have enough supplies and warm clothes in case they do get stuck.  COSAR would also like to remind people that if you do decide to go and look for family members (not recommended) to make sure you inform the RCMP.

COSAR says it easily could have been a double rescue as COSAR or the RCMP were not informed about the family member going into the area.
