Fire rips through home

Update:

Several homes were evacuated Friday morning after a large motorhome caught fire and threatened nearby structures.

Lake Country Deputy Fire Chief Brent Penner said that upon the crews arrival the blaze had spread from the motorhome to the corner of a carport and into the attic of the home.

“Plus a hedge fire was also underway near two homes down the road.”

Neighbours rushed to extinguish the hedge fire at the end of the road, which gave crews the ability to concentrate on the main fire, according to Penner.

Penner says once crews ensured everyone was out of the home, they attacked the fire within the attic space which had spread through a large void above the entire residence.

“We placed tarps within the home to attempt to prevent as much damage as possible from the water utilized to extinguish the (flames in the) attic.”

The area of origin has been identified near the front of the motorhome and the corner of the garage. The cause remains under investigation.

BC Hydro had to be called in to deal with live wires acting at the corner of the home.

Three engines, one tender and 18 firefighters responded to the call.

An early morning fire caused extensive damage to a home in Lake Country Friday morning.

Witnesses say the destructive fire started in a motor home parked next to the house on Davidson Road.

Neighbours say it was reported at around 12:30 a.m..

The residents were able to get out safely and no one was hurt in the blaze.

Investigators will be looking for a cause this morning.
