Big White hosts ski patrols

Members of ski patrols from around the world are at Big White Ski Resort this week for the Federation Internationale des Patrouilles de Ski (FIPS) Conference.

Over 100 delegates from 13 nations from around the world are visiting for the event.

The conference opened with a flag ceremony Sunday, with all 13 nations that are currently at the resort for the conference represented. 

Bruce Lockhead, President of FIPS, spoke at the podium and welcomed all the delegates to Big White Ski Resort. 

“Hats off to Tom Tull, FIPS Congress Organizing Chair, for introducing the FIPS to the Okanagan Valley”, commented Michael J Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort.  “This is only the second time in its 100 year history that FIPS has been hosted at a North American resort.”

Attendees of the FIPS 2014 Conference will cover an array of topics including avalanche awareness, first aid advancements, search and rescue etc. 

The week long event will also have a trade show component which is open to the public Monday, March 31 from 7a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Big White Village Centre Mall.
