Police arrest man in armed robbery

The RCMP have made an arrest in a series of armed robberies that have taken place around the area over the past few weeks, including the most recent one Tuesday night in West Kelowna.

Police say Brandon Oswald, 22, was taken into custody outside of the Shoppers Drug Mart on Dobbin Road.

“On March 11, 2014, just before 10 p.m., plainclothes and uniformed officers from both Kelowna and West Kelowna were conducting surveillance on a West Kelowna man suspected of several armed robberies beginning in February,” states Cst. Kris Clark in a release.

“Police followed the suspect to the Shoppers Drug Mart located at 2475 Dobbin Road, but were not in a position to intervene prior to him entering the store, masked and gun-in-hand. The man reportedly demanded cash and drugs from the staff before calmly leaving the store on foot. He had left his vehicle strategically parked a short distance away, but police weren't willing to let the suspect get that far, taking him into custody in the parking lot.”

Oswald has been charged with a number of offences related to this robbery and also believe he is responsible for several others.

They expect to file additional charges pending a further investigation.

In addition to this arrest, police also believe a separate, unrelated group is also committing armed robberies in Kelowna. That investigation is also continuing.
