Central Okanagan

Dad and daughter rescued

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) were called in to rescue a father and daughter from the Eneas Lake area in the hills above Peachland Saturday afternoon.

The father in his early 50’s and his daughter in her mid 20’s and their dog were exploring an area in which they got stuck with their UTV.  The father realizing they required help called the RCMP, who responded with four members who could not get into the area due to amount of snow. The RCMP then contacted COSAR to rescue the family members.

COSAR responded with 11 members and sent two snowmobile teams into the area to bring out the family and their dog.

With the temperatures in the area hovering around -18, the family was prepared for a short trip into the back country, they just didn’t expect to get stuck and be out in the cold for several extra hours.

After about two hours on snowmobiles COSAR reached the family and after ensuring they were fine, but just a little cold, escorted them out of the area and safely back to their vehicle.

COSAR would like to remind everyone that with the extreme temperatures in the area to please make sure you are prepared for going into the back country.  Have plenty of warm clothing, food and a way to make a fire to keep warm.
