The travel advisories for the Okanagan Connector and the Coquihalla have both been lifted by DriveBC.
Highway 1 is still closed from Revelstoke to Craigellachie due to a high avalanche hazard. The road is expected to reopen by 11 a.m.
UPDATE 1 P.M. JAN 2: DriveBC has issued a travel advisory for Highway 5 between Hope and Kamloops due to heavy snowfall from Exit 202, Portia Interchange to Kamloops (177 km). 55-60 cm of snow expected within 24 hours. Please use extreme caution when travelling.
A travel advisory has now also been issued for Highway 97C from Merritt to Brenda Mines. 55cm to 60cm of snow is expected to fall in that region as well over the next 24 hours.
Highway 1, the Trans Canada is closed in both directions from Revelstoke to Craigellachie due to a high avalanche hazard. A detour will be made available. The stretch of highway is not expected to reopen until sometime Friday morning.
You may want to rethink any plans you might have to travel between the Okanagan and the coast today or Friday.
A weather alert issued by Environment Canada warns of 'significant snowfall' on Highway 97C between Kelowna and Merritt over the next 24 hours.
The weather alert states a cold front sweeping through the BC Interior will bring snow to sections of the southern interior highway pass starting today.
Snow is expected to intensify tonight as a strong westerly flow develops.
"Generally, total snowfall accumulations of 15 to 25 cm are expected with higher amounts of 30 to 50 cm possible near the Coquihalla summit," Environment Canada says in the statement.
"Snow is forecast to taper off by early Friday morning."
