Weather and Road Report

Update - 1:50 p.m.

DriveBC is reporting the vehicle incident near Revelstoke is now clear.

It’s too early to tell whether Kelowna will experience a white Christmas this year, but we can confirm that the snow will be falling this weekend.

The Central Okanagan is expecting to see between 5-10 centimetres of the white stuff on Friday, before the forecast changes to a risk of freezing rain overnight.

The next three days also call for a chance of snow, with a 60 per cent chance of flurries by Monday and daytime highs hovering around the freezing mark.

Those travelling towards the coast can also expect to hit a snowfall warning in Metro Vancouver that extends along the Sunshine Coast, and along the east coast of Vancouver Island.

According to Environment Canada, a cold air mass in combination with moisture from a Pacific low pressure system will be brining snow to BC’s South Coast, and up to 5 centimetres had already been reported in some parts of the region.

Drive BC is reporting compact snow and slippery sections on both the Okanagan Connector and the Coquihalla, while motorists heading east to Alberta can expect the same type of conditions.

An early morning accident 10 kilometres east of Revelstoke has also reduced Highway 1 to single lane alternating traffic.
