Pedestrian hit in Lake Country
UPDATE 5:00 p.m. Dec 12:
The driver of Wednesday’s accident has come forward with her side of the story after she says the accident was misreported yesterday.
Shelby Swanson, 18, was behind the wheel when conditions turned from bad to worse and she says she lost control.
“We started coming down the hill and it had been snowing and we starting sliding one way and then the back of the vehicle kicked out, flipped the other way, then we spun and did a full 180 degrees,” says Swanson.
She says that the initial witness report that said she had hit the pedestrian and then spun out was wrong.
“We hit her literally as we were spinning out of control and then we slid into the ditch.”
Swanson says the road was icy and that the sand truck had not come by yet.
As for today, “Physically I am fine, mentally I am really upset, I just feel terrible. I mean I watched her flip over the hood of my vehicle.”
Swanson says she immediately wanted to get out of the vehicle and check on the woman but people kept screaming at her to stay in the car.
Since the accident Swanson has heard the woman that was struck is doing OK.
“I have talked to the police; they said she is doing OK, no broken bones or anything, so she is doing OK.”
As for Swanson, the RCMP have told her they are not looking at pressing any charges they agreed with her that it was road conditions, as they slipped all over the place just trying to walk to her vehicle.
According to witnesses a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Lake Hill Drive.
The driver then lost control of the vehicle which eventually rolled onto its side at the side of the road.
Two people were in the vehicle at the time.
The pedestrian, who apparently lost consciousness for a brief time, was found lying near the vehicle.
The pedestrian and at least one occupant of the vehicle were taken by ambulance to KGH with unknown injuries.
