School District buys golf course
Oct 25, 2013 / 5:00 am
School District 23 is proceeding with the purchase of a Lake Country golf course after receiving the go-ahead from the Agricultural Land Commission.
The district had applied to the ALC for a change in non-farm use of the Aspen Grove Golf Course property for eventual placement of sports fields to accommodate both George Elliot Secondary and a future middle school.
While the ALC has approved the change, the property will remain within the Agricultural Land Reserve.
The new middle school in Lake Country is the fourth priority in the Central Okanagan School District's five-year Capital Plan.
Construction of the new school is dependent on funding support from the Ministry of Education.
It will be constructed on the northern end of the George Elliot property.
In the meantime a grade 7 and 8 middle school program is being created at George Elliot Secondary to begin in September, 2014 to accommodate existing and projected enrollment.
