Brad Pitt is currently in Cannes to promote his role in Quentin Tarantino’s film, Inglourious Basterds. The film is receiving mixed reviews so far, ranging from “it’s just ok” to “possible masterpiece.” More on that coming up.
NBC’s Today was able to snag a big interview with Brad for this morning’s show, and Ann Curry was the lucky lady that was sent to Cannes for the interview (and all the other fun festival festivities). So here they are, Ann Curry and Brad Pitt, doing the interview in the beautiful French Riviera with the sun shining and the beaches below. The interview is going well until Curry brings up the fact that Pitt was named one of the most influential people in the world. Brad kinda squirms, and gets all humble. Then when she mentions that Pitt is also one of the world’s most beautiful people, he blushes. But next, Ann Curry reaches out and touches Brad’s face in a very non-business like manner. Talk about your hands-on approach to interviewing. This was flirting – pure and simple.
I’m sure nobody’s blaming her, I mean, he IS Brad Pitt. But do you think she went too far by touching him in this way? Yeah, I know, most women would have probably set their sights a bit lower (on his body) had they been in her position. Heh heh, heh heh, I said POSITION.
If you're in a rush, the fondling happens at the 5:23 mark.
Tarantino’s Basterds may be his best yet
As mentioned previously, Tarantino’s latest film, which gets the big Cannes treatment today (the audience screening was at noon Cannes time and the official screening with Tarantino and the actors present is at 7 p.m.), is receiving mixed reviews. I’ve read several reviews today and none of them have been negative. Plus, it’s important to note that the film received a standing ovation even without any talent present.
The wartime revenge flick doesn’t open until August 21st, and I hope it will bring Tarantino back to the big box office numbers he deserves. 2007’s Death Proof (as part of the Grindhouse double-feature) failed at the box office, but was probably the year’s most underrated movie. It was on Movie Central last night and my wife and I couldn’t help but watching again. Great flick!
But I digress. Sharon Waxman of The Wrap took in Inglourious Basterds at the audience screening and writes about her experience. Could this really be his masterpiece?

TV networks bicker like high school kids over Medium
After NBC cancelled Patricia Arquette’s Medium, CBS, which has based their success on crime solving dramas, was quick to pick up the show and drop it into their Friday night schedule.
But what the mainstream media won’t tell you about are all the behind-the-scenes bickering that’s going on between the two networks over the show. Nikki Finke reports that she has been receiving emails from execs of both networks about the show’s ratings, all the while berating (pun intended) each other’s other shows and their poor ratings.
Finke reports:
“NBC started spinning me with the news that Medium is rated lower than 2 shows which CBS just cancelled -- Eleventh Hour and Without A Trace. Snap!
But then CBS came back with this email to me: "Here's something NBC won't want you to know. Medium had more viewers than the following shows that NBC renewed: Southland, Law & Order, Chuck, 30 Rock, Parks And Recreation." Double-snap!
Then NBC returned fire with its own email explaining why "it was a smart decision" for NBC ultimately to lose the show. "We had several shows on the bubble and a lot of factors to consider. This just didn’t make the cut. So you know, the facts from our side here are some points worth considering: 13 episodes is all we had the appetite for at a greatly reduced price consistent with the greatly reduced ratings. 16 eps at their price made even less sense. It’s not just about the number of eps ordered, or the ratings performance, it’s also about the cost of the show to us. And with regard to other dramas having lower ratings, I would remind you that each show faces different time period competition. So, again, it isn’t just about the rating. It isn’t apples to apples comparison. Also, there is more upside for the younger/newer shows. Medium had one of the best lead-ins on our schedule. And it is lower-rated than shows CBS has canceled. By the way, last night it was down to a 1.9 rating. It is a record low for an original." Triple-snap! No emails since.
Honestly kids, high school never ends.
How many different ways can a person be murdered? When people grow tired of this, CBS is in trouble.
Jimmy Kimmel bashes his own network
Over the last few days, the TV networks have been in New York presenting their new schedules, complete with newly picked-up shows, to advertisers. These presentations are called upfronts.
Apparently it isn’t uncommon for some of the shows’ stars to come up on stage and make fun of their own network, or even themselves. But yesterday, Jimmy Kimmel took it to the next level by firing off several stinging shots at his home network, ABC.
Some of Jimmy’s zingers:
"Let's get real here. Let's get Dr. Phil-real here. These new fall shows? We're going to cancel about 90 percent of them. Maybe more."
"Every year we lie to you and every year you come back for more. You don't need an upfront. You need therapy. We completely lie to you, and then you pass those lies onto your clients."
"Next year on ‘Grey's Anatomy,' your product could kill Dr. Izzie. It just depends on how much you want to pay."
"I think all our shows are going to work this year. I really do. I don't, really."
"The important thing to remember is: who cares, it's not your money."
Kimmel also took a shot at NBC and Jay Leno, whom ABC once courted to possibly replace him when his contract with NBC ran out, saying that they're "giving Jay's viewers exactly what they want. An early-bird special."
Much of the Hollywood media is making a big deal about this, and some are suggesting that Kimmel may know something we don’t about the future of his show. However, Hollywood insider Nikki Finke reports that ABC Entertainment boss Steve McPherson was laughing during Kimmel’s rant, and that ABC knows what kind of humor Jimmy is going to do… supposedly, no one was surprised.
Maybe Kimmel is as frustrated with the network’s cancellations as we are. I mean, really… cancelling Pushing Daisies AND Life on Mars within the same season? There went two of the best new, innovative shows that the network has put on in years.
You GO, Jimmy!
Much ado about Kimmel. Or maybe nothing.
When sexting goes wrong
What? You haven’t heard the term sexting? Sexting is the act of sending a sexually charged text to a spouse, lover, partner, or FWB (friend with benefits). Many of us have found ourselves in a texting dilemma when we’ve sent a confidential text to the wrong number. But what happens when you mistakenly send a sex-text (or sext) to a small child? Thankfully for actress Anna Faris, the text wasn’t too naughty.
Faris spoke to Fox News at last week's T-Mobile Sidekick LX™ launch party at Hollywood's Paramount Studios, and shared her texting nightmare, which could have been so SO much worse:
“My fiancé and I, when we first met, we had sex-text-Wednesdays. Every Wednesday we would text each other the naughtiest things. I sent a text to a small child, asking the small child if they wanted to get drunk with me,” she admitted. “But I meant it for my friend. The small child said, 'I don't know what getting drunk means,' so bless the small child's little heart."
What? Anna Faris likes talking dirty? She’s just moved up even higher on my favorite actresses list!
