“You’re out of your mind!” shouts Dan. “Thank you, it’s been my life’s work to be that way” replies Socrates. “It’s when I’m out of my mind that I come to my senses.”

Welcome Peaceful Warrior! That’s a two-fold welcome, first to Dan Millman author of the best selling book “Way of the Peaceful Warrior” and second to the movie’s recall by popular demand in the Okanagan coming September 29th in Lake Country and October 1st in Penticton. The first showing in Kelowna sold out to five hundred people with many last minute arrivals turned away at the door.

Based on a true story this life changing movie starring Nick Nolte as Socrates, Scott Mechlowicz as Dan Millman and Amy Smart as Joy follows the book to a tee. Having read the book three times I was watching closely for the messages and lessons the author gained through his schooling with unlikely coach and mentor Socrates. I am pleased to report that the movie does a great job of enveloping the wisdom and insights this book has to offer. These insights are as important and useful in your career as they are at home.

Carrying an enlarged ego, Dan encounters many hard lessons with regards to his dreams of winning gold at the Olympics. The lessons are about how he approaches life and his relationship with team mates, women, friends and ultimately with himself. Dan learns to let go of his mind which was looking either to the past or into the future. By becoming present and being in the moment Dan learned how to overcome illusions he created and got out of his own way.

This story and the wisdom offered within are of the finest examples I know for moving from personal suffering to personal freedom. Appropriately titled, “Peaceful Warrior” is about the war raging within, known to us as the human condition. By being in the moment each of us can be standing on the top tier holding that gold medal. After all this moment is all we really have. My question to you is: “how present are you to this very moment oh and how about this one?”

One peaceful warrior we have in our midst is Tammie O’Rielly. She continues to bring us powerful and provocative films all of which are helping to raise our level of consciousness. Tammie has arranged for the return of “Peaceful Warrior” September 29th 7:30pm at the Creekside Theatre in Lake Country and October 1st 1:30pm at Smith & Company in Penticton. Advance tickets are at Mandala Books, Dare to Dream and White Light/Treasures for Life in Kelowna, Dreamweaver in Vernon, Smith & Company in Penticton, and tickets at the doors if available. Thank you Tammie for your dedication.

To top it all off, Kelowna’s Community Theatre is hosting author and international speaker Dan Millman on September 24th at 1:30pm. His presentation “Peaceful Heart, Warrior Spirit” promises to be as insightful as his movie and book. You can reserve your tickets online.

My wish for you is to take your career and life to a new level by letting go of what is holding you back. What is holding you back is your mind. So until next week, remember: “in only two days, tomorrow will be yesterday, lean into it!” As I offer insights, stories, tips and career information, please contact me to share your stories opinions and comments to Don Campbell.
