Power failure at Calgary airport

Airlines are apologizing to customers for delayed flights through Calgary that they say are due to power failures at the city's airport.

Air Canada and WestJet have both sent messages on Twitter advising that flights are being delayed or cancelled because of the power problems at the terminal.

Calgary's electric utility, Enmax, says spring-like weather and a salt buildup caused some utility poles to catch fire early Sunday, knocking out power for several thousand customers in the city's northeast.

Enmax spokeswoman Doris Kaufmann Woodcock says the power supply continued to the airport, but that something triggered a problem on the airport's end.

Calgary airport spokeswoman Jody Moseley says a backup power supply kept emergency systems functioning and that full power was restored by Sunday afternoon.

Enmax is working with the airport to determine what happened.
