Liberal candidates debate in Winnipeg

The nine people vying for the federal Liberal leadership took part in a low-key, interview-style debate in Winnipeg Saturday.

Instead of facing off against each other, the candidates sat down with a moderator, one at a time, for a series of 11-minute interviews.

The questions ranged from the personal, Marc Garneau said he loves to vacuum and do other chores, to issues such as crime and agriculture.

Justin Trudeau said the way to cut crime is through prevention, such as community outreach programs and sports for youth.

Joyce Murray said municipalities should get more money for infrastructure, double the amount of gas tax funding than they currently receive.

An Idle No More protester tried to disrupt the event by banging a drum and shouting, but he was quickly taken outside by security.
