Boyfriend's mom 'missing girl is safe'

The mother of a teenage boy who Saskatchewan RCMP allege abducted his pregnant girlfriend says it's all a misunderstanding.

Caralee said Thursday her son, 16-year-old, and his 14-year-old girlfriend are safe and are planning to go to police and explain what happened.

The girl is fine and so is the baby. And I think once the kids have their side of the story heard, everybody will understand better."

But an Amber Alert remained in effect and Mounties said they wouldn't comment on the development.

"We feel that a lot of it's been blown out of proportion," said Caralee. "I trust my son's judgement. He loves (her) and he would do everything in his power to protect her."

The alert was issued after relatives reported that two masked intruders burst into their home and demanded the teen pack some clothes and leave with them.

The girl was at her father's home in the southwestern community, watching a movie and reading books on pregnancy, when there was banging on the door about 11 p.m. Wednesday, said her sister.

The sister opened the door and the two people wearing ski masks pushed inside. She thought they were there to rob the home.

"Is (she) here?" asked one guy who had a small wooden bat. the sister said she immediately recognized the voice. He walked through the home and found (her) in another room. "Get your stuff. Make it quick," he told her.

The person pushed her sister out the door, but didn't threaten anyone. She said the other intruder was also holding some sort of weapon but left without saying a word.

As soon as the two left, she called police.

The mom said her daughter and boy had been together for about a year. The girl got pregnant when she was 13.
