Twenty-eight Canadian peacekeepers stationed in El Gorah, Egypt, are unharmed after their camp was attacked by protesters, part of a wave of outrage sweeping the Middle East.

A spokesman for the country's overseas command, Lt.-Col. Chris Lemay, says all of the soldiers are accounted for and unhurt after militants attacked the desert base, located in the Sinai Peninsula.

Dozens of armed militants broke down the wall of the multinational force's base and battled with troops inside.

The assault left four other peacekeepers wounded, but their nationality was not disclosed.

The Sinai bases house about 1,500 multinational troops, part of a force put in place under the 1979 peace accord between Egypt and Israel.

Deadly protests, sparked, apparently, by a low-budget U.S. film that mocks the prophet Muhammad, have been roiling the Muslim world for days.
