About 2M people voted during the first two days advance polls

Record breaking turnout

More Canadians have taken the opportunity to mark their ballot ahead of next Monday's federal election than ever before.

According to information from Elections Canada, about two million people across the country marked their ballots during the first two days of polls.

This is about 25 per cent more than in 2015, however, officials add this is also the first time polls have been open for 12 hours each day.

The figures do not include people who voted in local offices, on campus, in additional service points, or by special ballot.

Today is the final day of advance voting. Polling stations will close at 9 p.m.

Elections Canada had initially expected to have preliminary numbers available Tuesday, but now says it will be Wednesday, and will only include national numbers.

"Unfortunately we will not be able to offer turnout by riding for advance polls, as our 338 returning officers will be focused on the final push to election day," an official stated in an email over the weekend.
