Mourning LGBTQ victims

A downtown Toronto community will come together this evening to mourn the deaths of several men in the LGBTQ community at the hands of an alleged serial killer.

Bruce McArthur, a 66-year-old self-employed landscaper, has been charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of five men, and police have said they believe there are more victims.

Those known so far are Selim Esen, 44, Andrew Kinsman, 49, Majeed Kayhan, 58, Soroush Mahmudi, 50 — as well as Dean Lisowick, who was either 43 or 44 when he died.

The revelations came after a months-long search by police for Esen and Kinsman, as well as other men from Toronto's LGBTQ community who had been missing for years.

A candlelight vigil will be held at the Metropolitan Community Church in Toronto's east-end, which was an early adopter of same-sex marriage ceremonies.

A release from the church says the vigil will provide "a safe space to grieve, remember, and support one another."
