39.9 for a litre of gas

Drivers in Edmonton have been treated to a blast from the past Wednesday, as gas prices at Shell stations across the city dropped below 40 cents per litre.

It’s all part of Shell Canada’s celebration of 30 years of oil refinery in Alberta, with prices falling back to levels not seen since the mid 80’s.

Eight gas stations around the city are taking part with lower prices for gasoline and diesel, and the company’s twitter account is dropping hints of where drivers can find the deals.

Lineups stretching over a dozen vehicles have been reported at some locations, as consumers sit and wait to save money.

The average cost of gasoline at other locations in Edmonton is around $1.11 per litre.
