Edmontonians are being asked to check their winter coat pockets, old purses, sock drawers and junk jars, because somewhere out there is an unclaimed lottery ticket worth $50 million.
The Western Canada Lottery Corp. says it was a Lotto Max ticket for the Dec. 20, 2013, draw.
The winning numbers were 2, 13, 18, 24, 27, 37, and 43, and there was just one winner.
Lottery spokeswoman Andrea Marantz says it's not unusual for people to forget to check their lottery tickets, especially at a busy time of year like Christmas.
She says it's also possible the winner knows, and is delaying collecting on the ticket for some reason, such as the Alberta millionaire who focused on taking care of her premature baby before claiming her winning ticket.
However, if the ticket isn't turned in by Dec. 20 this year, it will become the largest unclaimed prize to date across Canada.
Currently, that dubious honour is held by whoever failed to claim a $14.9 million Lotto 649 ticket purchased in Alberta in June 2006.
