Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is speaking out while in rehab, telling a Toronto newspaper he'll be back for this fall's municipal election and be on the ballot for mayor.
The Toronto Sun says Ford tells the newspaper he is doing fine in rehab, but he did not say when he would return and did not reveal the name of the treatment centre or where it is located.
He announced he was taking a leave of absence from his job last week to seek "immediate" help for alcohol abuse.
His announcement came just hours after fresh media reports surfaced, alleging drug use and offensive remarks by the mayor, who has been dogged for more than a year by allegations of misbehaviour.
Ford then flew to Chicago on a plane but did not enter the United States and his exact whereabouts remain unknown, although his lawyer and his brother Coun. Doug Ford have both confirmed he is in treatment.
Ford told the Sun he's getting help for his problems and called alcohol "the worst drug of all."
The mayor also said he's continuing to make calls for constituents despite being in rehab.
