Truck slams into RCMP cruiser

Update -- Jan. 28, 2:50 p.m.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with two counts of Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm after he crashed his car into a police vehicle and injured two officers.

James Burton Weaver is suspected of being behind the wheel when his car struck a parked police vehicle and pushed it into another police vehicle.

An officer was pinned between the two cars and had to be rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Weaver will be appearing in Surrey Provincial Court this afternoon.

Original story

Two Mounties — including one who was pinned between police vehicles — have been taken to hospital with serious injuries following an accident outside a Surrey police station.

Sgt. Dale Carr says the accident took place mid-afternoon Monday in the parking lot of the Newton District Office.

He says police believe a motorist was travelling through the parking lot, struck a parked police vehicle and pushed it into another police vehicle.

An officer who was on foot was pinned between the two police vehicles.

The officer who was inside the vehicle was also injured, but Carr says the person in the first vehicle was not injured and taken into custody.

The RCMP's traffic section is investigating the incident.
