Mounties injured in Alberta standoff

RCMP confirm they have taken a wounded male suspect into custody after one Mountie was shot and grazed and another was run over with a stolen vehicle on a rural Alberta property near Vegreville.

Chief Supt. Randy McInnis says the suspect was arrested during an overnight standoff at a rural location between Vegreville and the community of Tofield (TOH'-field), east of Edmonton.

McInnis says the suspect was injured during a firefight Monday evening as officers were trying to locate a person who had allegedly threatened to go to a farmhouse with a handgun to kill someone.

The suspect's condition is not known.

McInnis says the couple who resided at the house were taken into custody and all three will be interviewed to determine what charges they'll face.

He also says the Mountie who was shot in the upper arm has been released from hospital, while the second injured officer is still undergoing treatment.
