Christopher Schneider, an associate professor of sociology in the Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences at UBC’s Okanagan campus, has been named one of BC’s top university professors by the Confederation of University Faculty Associations of BC (CUFA BC).

CUFA BC held its annual Distinguished Academics Awards banquet on Wednesday, April 3 in Vancouver where Schneider was presented with the 2013 Early in Career Award. Schneider has been recognized for his work to help the general public better understand our rapidly changing society.

Schneider practices public sociology daily and his methods range from public lectures, frequent media interviews, workshops with RCMP officers, and encouraging his students to bring a non-student friend to class to learn how sociologists look at the world.

He was one of three university professors honoured by the CUFA BC on Wednesday. The awards are presented annually to recognize outstanding faculty members who use their research to benefit the general public.
