Okanagan College business programs accredited

Okanagan College Media Release

The reputation of Okanagan College’s School of Business is going to be enhanced by a recent accreditation it has received from an international agency. The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners has awarded Okanagan College initial accreditation of its business programs.

“Okanagan College has shown their commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said ACBSP Director of Accreditation Steve Parscale, who will present the Certificate of Initial Accreditation at the ACBSP Annual Conference in Chicago, Ill., June 29. “This accreditation is evidence that Okanagan College is committed to providing the highest quality business education for their students.”

Established in 1988, ACBSP is the only organization offering specialized business accreditation for all degree levels, from associate to baccalaureate to doctoral degree programs. ACBSP accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the School of Business at Okanagan College meet the rigorous educational standards established by ACBSP.

“Receiving accreditation from ACBSP is further evidence of the strength of Okanagan College’s business programs,” said President Jim Hamilton. “A great deal of that strength comes from the knowledge and expertise of our teaching faculty and the level of engagement they maintain with industry and community partners. We often hear from our students and alumni, as well as the many companies who employ our graduates, that they are receiving the very best education possible. To have a third party endorse the program provides that extra step in quality control and that is very important to us.”

Kelly Loudoun is just one of the many alumni from the Okanagan College School of Business who earned a degree at the College and then moved on to graduate studies in Business. Loudoun, who graduated from the College’s program with Honours in 2012, is pursuing his MBA at the University of Victoria and says his undergraduate work at the College was invaluable and prepared him well for graduate school.

“Okanagan College offers a world-class business education,” said Loudoun. “The Bachelor of Business Administration program was the perfect fit for me and one of the main reasons for my success was the quality of the teaching and the close relationships I built with my professors. At the College your profs become like colleagues – they are invested in your education and success and that comes through in the classroom. I’m not surprised the College’s program meets the criteria set out by the ACBSP, in my opinion, it’s the best place to learn business.”
