Orientation eases students into university life

Orientation Fall 2012

TRU kicks off an action-packed first week with TRU Discover on Sept. 8, the annual orientation for new domestic and international students.

“Bring Your Thing” is this year’s theme and celebrates the diversity of talents, goals, cultures and perspectives on campus.

Start the day by joining an estimated 1,300 other new students at 9 a.m. at the Tournament Capital Centre Fieldhouse for a New Student Convocation and a formal welcome from President and Vice-Chancellor Alan Shaver and the deans of each faculty and school.

Academic open houses will allow you to get your bearings on campus before classes begin the next day on Sept. 9. Meet first-year faculty members and other students in your programs.

A free barbecue lunch, swag, prizes, grass volleyball, spikeball, music, and campus tours are among the fun and social activities. Tours run at 1 and 2 p.m. Student volunteers will answer your questions and highlight the services and activities TRU has in place to make your transition to university as smooth as possible.

ALSO ATTEND BACK TO SCHOOL BBQ
Make a point of going to the campus-wide Back to School BBQ on Friday, Sept. 11. This features free food, music, activities and a resource fair with information on various services, clubs, recreation and other opportunities to enhance your time at TRU.
