Accolades Restaurant re-opens Sept. 16

Thompson Rivers University’s Accolades Restaurant has always garnered, well, accolades, and has been featured as one of the top 100 restaurants in Canada for several years running. It’s an achievement no other university restaurant in Canada can claim.

Yet even the best need re-imagining. After a one-year hiatus, time spent rethinking and retooling, a new and improved Accolades will be open for business Sept. 16, 2015.

Patrons can expect an array of interesting and flavourful starters, mains and desserts from the new Accolades.

Featuring special events and innovative menus using locally sourced, seasonal food and wine, this award-winning student-run restaurant will, once again, be available to please the palates of the Kamloops public.

There is high industry demand for trained cooks, and the instructors are working hard to ensure that the best chefs in the country come from the Culinary Arts Training Program at TRU

“Industry loves our students because of the real-life kitchen and restaurant experience we provide,” says Chef Ed Walker, Chair and instructor of the Culinary Arts Training Program.

Budding chefs and hospitality specialists need a training ground, and Accolades provides senior culinary students with a venue where they can provide discerning patrons with the latest trends and techniques in food preparation and service.

A new twist to the front of the house this year is having a past student come back to teach in Accolades. Maeghan Summers graduated from the Hotel and Resort Diploma program in 2007 and is passionate about the program that developed her abilities and facilitated her growth in the hospitality industry. Fast forward to today and Maeghan is the general manager and partner of the local favorite, The Noble Pig Brewhouse. “I am looking forward to creating memorable experiences for guests and students alike in a new setting and to be back where it all started,” Summers says.

Starting Sept. 16 Accolades will be open Wednesday and Thursday nights. Service starts at 6 p.m., 30-40 guests per night, up to Dec 10.
