B.C. trade mission to India sparks TRU visit by Indian delegation

October 27, 2014 – Recently, British Columbia Premier Christy Clark conducted a trade mission to India to promote partnerships, investment and jobs for B.C. The province’s Minister of Advanced Education, Amrik Virk, pointed out that the trade mission reinforces the already close economic, cultural and social ties B.C. is proud to have with India — a fact that is not surprising considering more than 5% of B.C.’s population has South Asian heritage.

The trade mission has already sparked a highly positive and concrete outcome. On Monday, October 27, the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE) in collaboration with the Punjab and Harayana chambers of commerce, will be hosting a forum with post-secondary and related educational institutions in Vancouver. That evening, the delegation will travel to Kamloops where they will be hosted by Thompson Rivers University for an October 27 dinner and on-campus meetings on October 28.

TRU’s leadership in international education has certainly influenced the addition of Kamloops to the delegation’s B.C. itinerary and will set the foundation for continued exploration of robust cooperative ventures between the university and educational partners in India.
