Cab's computer system examined for clues in '60 Minutes' correspondent Bob Simon's fatal crash

NEW YORK, N.Y. - New York City police are examining the computer system of a livery cab for clues to what caused the accident that killed "60 Minutes" correspondent Bob Simon.

Police said Friday the system should be able to tell them if the car was accelerating before it collided with another vehicle on the West Side Highway in Manhattan.

Police say the driver has told investigators he remembers feeling a bump before the crash but not much else. He remains hospitalized with broken legs and a broken arm.

The city's medical examiner found Simon died from blunt-force injuries to his head, torso and extremities and had fractures. Police say he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.

Simon covered most major overseas conflicts and news stories since the late 1960s. He was 73 years old.
