Chrysler, Ford report increase in June sales
TORONTO - Canadian light vehicle sales rose in June despite a big drop by General Motors, according to figures released by industry analyst DesRosiers Automotive on Wednesday.
Overall, vehicle sales rose 2.2 per cent to 175,428 units, up from 171,608 in the same month last year.
Passenger cars sales were 77,552 in June, an increase of 3.4 per cent from the 75,021 cars sold in the same month last year.
Light truck sales rose 1.3 per cent to 97,876.
But while sales by import nameplates rose about five per cent, those by North American automakers dropped, with the GM/Ford/Chrysler collectively selling 78,616 vehicles, down 1.1 per cent from June of last year. That was due entirely to a 15 per cent drop to 21,007 vehicles by GM Canada.
