TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (15,112.22, up 2.97 points):
B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up 22 cents, or 7.67 per cent, to $3.09 on 26.3 million shares. The Vancouver-based company said in June that it planned to merge with Papillon Resources Ltd., an Australian public company.
Royal Bank of Canada (TSX:RY). Bank. Down 26 cents, or 0.35 per cent, to $75.10 on 9.7 million shares.
Bank of Nova Scotia (The) (TSX:BNS). Bank. Down 43 cents, or 0.60 per cent, to $70.78 on 9.3 million shares.
BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX:BB). Communication equipment. Up 84 cents, or 9.33 per cent, to $9.84 on 7.8 million shares. BlackBerry posted a surprise US$23-million profit in its first quarter, which beat analyst expectations and showed that efforts the company has made to revamp its smartphone business are making headway.
Eldorado Gold Corp. (TSX:ELD). Miner. Up 60 cents, or 8.47 per cent, to $7.68 on 6 million shares.
Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 51 cents, or 5.67 per cent, to $9.50 on 5.7 million shares.
Toronto Venture Exchange (1,022.06, up 13.24 points):
West Kirkland Mining Inc. (TSX:WKM). Miner. Up 2.5 cents, or 23.81 per cent, to 13 cents on 10.8 million shares.
Spartan Energy Corp. Oil and gas. Up two cents, or 0.47 per cent, to $4.28 on 4.8 million shares.

Quebecor Inc. (TSX:QBR.B). Communication services. Down 36 cents, or 1.31 per cent, to 514,587 shares. The company says it is in talks with other new wireless carriers and potential financial partners to establish Canada's fourth national carrier if barriers such as high roaming fees and tower sharing problems are resolved."The global vision is to offer a pan-Canadian service," CEO Pierre Dion said Thursday after telling shareholders about its efforts.
